“Do you eat fruit?!?” I wish I had a dollar for every time someone has asked me that question when we talk about my Keto lifestyle. I’d be super rich if I had a dollar for every excuse made as to why a person can’t live without fruit. I mean, we are told from the time we are children to eat our fruit!
My answer is “rarely”. Fruit is not part of my daily diet.
I know they are disappointed in my answer. Oh, the look of sadness on their face, or their vocal objections is understandable. I haven’t had a banana in 18 months. I get it. I loved bananas and I always thought they were good for me. But they are not.
I do explain a tiny bit about my blood work results that showed I am fructose intolerant. Eating fructose makes me fat and feel unwell. I prefer not to be fat and sickly. YOU might be able to enjoy some fruit here and there, but it is something that you would really need to evaluate for yourself in the low-carb lifestyle.
TRUTHFULLY – I don’t miss fruit. I have gained so much more in this journey!
Let me tell you about the most awesome thing that has filled my need, want, desire for fruit! It is so much more fulfilling and satisfying and it’s my whole purpose for sharing this blog with you and the world!
You see, I no longer need fruit (or any specific food) to satisfy my cravings. I was finally, finally able to wrap my head and heart around the idea that God is everything I ever needed to fulfill my body, mind, and soul. He offers the choicest fruit that I now crave every day – the fruit of the spirit: love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness, and self-control (Galatians 5:22-23).
I am on a journey to digest these nine attributes of living in accord with His plan for me every day. As I dig into His word, I have been allowing him to prune my life. I cannot stress to you the importance of being in His word – EVERY. SINGLE. DAY. – as you travel on your own journey to health and healing. You will truly be amazed by everything He will reveal to you through studying and prayer. THIS is your apple a day!
I recently read Romans 12:1 with a whole new understanding and application to my life!

I want to be feeling my best – mind, body, and soul – so that His will for me and my actions every day are a spiritual act of worship. For me, that means that I need to adhere to a diet of the wholesome, nutrient dense food that HE provides to fuel my day. I had to recognize that fruit, loaded with fructose, is not good fuel for my body. Bye-bye, bananas!
Romans 12:2 goes on to say “Do not conform any longer to the pattern of this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind. Then you will be able to test and approve what God’s will is – his good, pleasing, and perfect will.” In a very basic sense, I have disregarded the standard dietary advice of this culture and was truly blessed by what He put in front of my face as I started and continued on this journey. The world has corrupted our food source, and I’m happy to have found the path back to His provisions – both physically and spiritually.
I have been freed from the compulsive thoughts of what to eat next. I have been freed from crazy food cravings. I have been healed from many metabolic dysfunctions. As a result, I can offer my body as a living sacrifice to do His will! I am ready for anything!
I’m going to be exploring the application of all these perfect “fruits” over the next few months with you. What can we learn about love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness and self-control that will nourish us mind, body, and soul? I have a few thoughts – so stick around!
Oh taste and see, the Lord is good!
